As we’ve just just welcomed the new year in, let’s take a few minutes to reflect on the old year we’ve said goodbye to. 2012 has been a massive year for K-pop, not only for us fans here in the UK, but thanks to Gangnam Style, K-pop has become a worldwide phenomenon!

I like nothing more than a good discussion about music, so I figured that this was the perfect time to take a look back at 2012 and music it produced; some other members of UnitedKpop staff and I have decided to share our personal favourites of last year.

Favourite song of 2012:

–          Freya: E.R. by Dalmatian

–          Holly: Fantastic Baby by BIGBANG

–          Caroline: I Don’t Need A Man by Miss A, Catch Me by TVXQ, Stop It by B.A.P

–          Ella: Sherlock by SHINee

Favourite video of 2012:

–          Jackie: EXO – MAMA was epic!

–          Ella: Block B – Nilili Mambo & f(x) – Electric Shock

–          Ashleigh: The visuals in 2NE1’s I Love You were amazing.

–          Xin Ting:Crayon – G-Dragon, Gangnam Style – Psy (sorry but it was addictive ^^;;) and Monster – Big Bang

Favourite rookie of 2012:

–          Holly + Ashleigh: B.A.P

–          Caroline, Jackie, Xin Ting: Exo-K

–          Freya: Just to be different gonna say NewUs

Favourite concept 2012:

–          Ella: Miss A – I Don’t Need A Man

–          Caroline: Yep, I’m definitely saying this, Jo Kwon’s “Animal”. xD And TVXQ’s “Catch Me”!

–          Freya: Nillili Mambo by Block B

–          Jackie: I really like B1A4’s concept in Tried To Walk.

Favourite film of 2012:

–          Jackie:I don’t think it was released in 2012 but I saw it this year it’s called ‘Always’

–          Ashleigh: I’ve watched so many films in this past year that it’s hard to pick…I don’t think any of them are necessarily from 2012, but I enjoyed Windstruck the most. It was amazing.

–          Caroline: I haven’t seen any Korean films apart from Old Boy…unless SMTown The Movie counts?! LOL.

Most listened to CD/track of 2012:

–          Xin Ting:Big Bang’s Still Alive album

–          Jackie:If I go by my Itunes library its TeenTop – To You.

–          Ashleigh: B.A.P’s repackage Crash album, MBLAQ’s It’s War and SHINee’s Sherlock.

–          Caroline:Wonder Girls’ Like This, Junsu’s Tarantallegra, Beast’s Beautiful Night, TVXQ’s Catch Me, Block B’s Nillili Mambo, B.A.P’s Stop It…There’s too many guise.

Most anticipated comeback of 2012:

–          Holly: Super Junior!

–          Ashleigh: 2NE1 and B.A.P! No comeback by either of these bands have ever disappointed me!

–          Freya: Block B obviously.

It’s all well and good looking back at what we enjoyed about 2012, but what is it that we’re looking forwards to the most in the new year?

Who would you most like to come to the UK for a concert?:

–          Jackie: Nell or some other Indie artists ^^

–          Holly: Super Junior. They were one of my earliest K-Pop loves and I have wanted to see them live for so long. I think they would put on a really amazing show. The only thing is that a lot of members wouldn’t be there due to military service duties etc. which is sad.

–          Xin Ting: Super Junior, Shinhwa, Nemesis.

–          Freya: Block B!

–          Ashleigh: I would like it if 2NE1 would finally confirm a UK tour date OTL Apart from that, a family concert would be awesome – TS Family, SMTown, YG Family or JYP Nation!

–          Ella: SMTOWN CONCERT. If not then SHINee World

Whose comeback are you looking forwards to in 2013?:

–          Caroline:EXO-K. If they dont release Baby Don’t Cry I am going to throttle Lee Soo Man!

–          Jackie: Maybe U-Kiss! I want to see them becoming more popular, or 2PM.

–          Ella: EXO dammit, EvoL, Jewelry, f(x), 4minute, EXID, SHINee, gosh so many! xD

–          Holly: 2PM! I adore their Korean songs, so I would love to see them make a proper comeback in their homeland after what seems like an eternity! I have also gotten into Shinhwa only recently after watching the hilarious ‘Shinhwa Broadcast’. I wasn’t really a fan of theirs during their first comeback after the military, so I didn’t appreciate it!

So, that’s some of our answers about personal favourites. How about you? Leave us a comment and let us know what you enjoyed most last year!

From all of us here at UnitedKpop, we’d like to wish you a very happy new year!
