This week’s fan talent is British Born Chinese bad girl – Laura Looi! Photo credit – Sophie Simpson

Fresh out of high school, Laura has always been interested in singing, rapping, acting, modelling and dancing – even going as far as ditching lessons to go practise. Laura was well known in school for her dedication in the arts, being nicknamed as the “triple threat” for her talent in singing, dancing and acting. Since passing with flying colours, her next plan is to get into the London College of Fashion.

Laura has since been signed with Emma Engers’ Associates since 2012 where she takes part in other acting related work outside of K-pop. Only recently has she been into K-pop through YouTubers such as Bubzbeauty and Mychonny, which inspired her to take on K-pop song covers alongside her YouTube voice acting.

Laura’s first K-pop cover was a Big Bang – Tonight remix, which has gathered over 100 listens on Soundcloud.

After writing her own English lyrics for the songs she’s covered, Laura has discovered that she can’t write when she’s happy. She likes her covers to be more than just something in English, she likes to put her own spin and inject her own experiences into the song. This is what makes her stand out.

These covers have led her to take part in events such as the KBS World Festival. Despite not winning, Laura is still going strong and promoting herself through busking. As you may have noticed, Laura can perform fearlessly in a public space, meaning she easily attracts crowds and even professional photographers come along to catch a glimpse and a few shots!

Since then, Laura has been going all out on her covers from using high quality recording equipment, to planning out and making music videos to go with it. She’s known for paying attention to details in her work and taking a huge part in the creative side of it. One of her most popular covers being G-Dragon‘s Crooked, which was filmed in the very same spots as G-Dragon himself!

More recently, she’s been busy collaborating with other K-pop fans to make her covers, from instrumental makers to dancers, Laura has gathered up a wide range of contacts for future videos. The most recent collaboration with Milae3 for her cover of CL‘s MTBD.

Laura has announced that an exciting new video is in the making, in which she’s scouted two models/actors to take part. Subscribe to her YouTube and Soundcloud to be the first to see it! She’s also open to requests which you can submit through her Soundcloud.

In the meantime, check out her most recent cover of G-Dragon‘s Runaway.
