Welcome back to this week’s fun story! This week’s story isn’t exactly fun necessarily but an incredibly beautiful one. And it would seem Block B’s notorious leader Zico returns to the media this week for something fantastically different this time.

The artist is known for his famous rapping skills in Block B as well as his many solo activities however it is only recently that fans have been noticing something rather peculiar about his songs.

Zico has been placing rather subtle hidden messages on his twitter, at first, to the amusement of fans, the star tweeted about making the duration of his songs being the rather long length of 4 minutes 16 seconds. The fans, thinking the rapper was supposedly teasing them to get his fans excited for his upcoming songs  since the length is deemed as rather long for a song however, only recently did fans actually decipher what that message meant.

The rapper initially tweeted on the 3rd November 2014: “The completed version of ‘Tough Cookie’ has a running time of 4 minutes and 16 seconds”. However a month later on December 31st, Zico tweeted the following photo of a yellow ribbon which is well known as the official support campaign symbol for the Sewol tragedy, saying “Even if sewol(time) passes, let us not forget that one Sewol. Don’t forget, never forget. 4.16.”

Nevertheless it didn’t seem like anyone had actually made the connection there, seeing as the artist appeared to be simply respectfully mourning the tragedy which occurred in April earlier that year since he posted this picture on the last day of the year to remember the heartbreaking incident.

It was only on the 12th February that the singer posted yet again another mention of the length of the song ‘Well Done’ in a tweet which read, “My new single ‘Well Done’ has a running time of 4 minutes and 16 seconds”.

It was that point that fans appeared to make a connection with the length of the songs and the Sewol ferry tragedy as fans researched the message behind his tweets and found that one of the female victims who had passed away from the incident was actually a rather huge fan og Block B.

The father of the girl, who’s name remains anonymous out of respect, only the surname is given: Yoo, gave an interview back in May 2014 how she was a rather big fan of the group to the point of being an administrator of the Block B’s fan club, saying, “She was really looking forward to attending Block B’s concert after coming back home from the high school science [Sewol Ferry] trip because we promised to let her go as a birthday gift…”.

Her father also mentioned in the interview how somehow the message was relayed to Block B’s Zico, the girl’s favourite member and visited Yoo’s funeral carrying a handwritten letter by him to her. Her father said, “He [Zico] stayed for about an hour and a half. He and I talked and cried together for the whole time before he left. He said that he lost a very valuable and precious fan and shed a lot of tears… he cried a lot”.

Since the conversation with Yoo’s father, to which Zico had told her parents Block B’s concert has been postponed out of respect of the victims of the tragedy, he invited her parents as special guests to the concert out respect to their daughter who desperately wanted to go. Yoo’s parents did in fact in the end bring her with them, in a framed photograph held in their arms while they and she enjoyed the show. Her father, touched by the Zico’s act said “My daughter was able to watch her favorite oppas at the concert she’s been dying to go to. By the end of the concert, in the photo we had of our daughter, she looked like she was smiling”.

What was possibly the most heartwarming moment of the concert was a fanaccount of it which described:  “I went to that concert and Zico even called out into the audience saying, ‘Are you watching, Yoo? Are you enjoying the show? I hope this next song will be able to reach out to you…’ It was so sweet!”. It is safe to say we hope the beautiful moment reached his fan, may she rest in peace.
