At just 5ft 6in, Kim Ryeowook may be the shortest member of Super Junior, but as Yoda warns, judge him by his size do not. He’s got a belting set of vocal cords, captivating live audiences around the world for over ten years with SuJu, and he’s now enjoying his solo debut.

Ryeowook was spotted at the age of 17 by S.M. after appearing in CMB Youth ChinCHin Festival in 2004. Here’s some video footage where you can hear his signature voice ringing out loud and clear. His body slimmed down dramatically before debut (approx 86kg to 58kg) and some think he may have had a spot of plastic surgery. Either way, these days he’s known as the cute and talented vocalist in the group.

Ryeowook debuted with Super Junior in 2005, and he is in both of Super Junior’s sub-units: the vocal group Super Junior K.R.Y and Super Junior M, which releases in the Chinese market. Like the rest of Super Junior M, his face was put on a Chinese stamp. They were the first Korean idol group to appear on Chinese stamps.

He’s also been an acting-dol; he starred in a movie Attack on the Pin-Up Boys with the rest of Super Junior, and has acted live in various musicals and theatre performances, including a show in Japan where he played a North Korean soldier. He’s also been on TV in other roles. In 2014 and 2015, he co-hosted the weekly Super Idol Chart Show charting trends in idol world. And he has famously showed off his vocal skills on TV by winning Immortal Song 2 in 2012 and wowing the viewers of King of Masked Singer.

Ryeowook’s solo debut release The Little Prince is loosely based on the theme of the famous novel, and he’ll be performing his first solo concerts at the SM Town theatre in Seoul on February 19 and 21.
