Our Idol for this week is none other than the “Ssenunni” herself, Jessi. The singer-rapper rose to stardom after her appearance on Korean survival show, Unpretty Rapstar. Despite not winning the show, Jessi’s strong image and husky voice earned her a dedicated fanbase.

Most recently, Jessi has been turning heads with her collaboration with rapper Flowsik. The duo dropped two tracks last week —  ‘All I Need’ and ‘Wet’ — both of which have received positive reactions from fans. The first of the two releases, ‘All I Need’, is a romantic track; while ‘Wet’ takes on a more mature theme.

Before her infamous appearance on Unpretty Rapstar, Jessi was formerly a member of hip-hop trio Lucky J. Alongside rapper J’Kyun and vocalist J-Yo, Lucky J debuted in 2014 with the digital single ‘Can You Hear Me’. The group released another single, ‘No Love’, before disbanding in 2016.

Jessi has since focused on their solo career and released her first single ‘Ssenunni‘ in 2015. The track exemplifies her bad-girl image and includes her most memorable quotes from her time on Unpretty Rapstar. You can check out our review of this song here.

In 2017, she released her first solo album titled Un2verse, which includes her second rap single, ‘Gucci‘.

Be sure to check out both ‘All I need’ and ‘Wet’, as well as keeping an eye out for Jessi’s future activities!
