YG Entertainment started their global auditions this year for the first time in London on June 16th.   Two lines were formed outside of the Korean Cultural Centre: walk in applications and appointments. Many auditionees had been waiting patiently since 9am to audition practising their songs and getting ready for the audition.

More auditionees came to participate in the audition throughout the whole day and some were still waiting until 9PM in the evening to have their audition. Unfortunately, the Korean Cultural Centre (or the KCC) were not given press passes to UK sites so in the meantime, we have photos of the queue outside.

I interviewed a few auditionees who had finished their auditions with these questions:

  1. Why did you decide to audition for YG?
  2. What are your main inspirations for taking this audition? (maybe that doesn’t make sense lol)
  3. Who is your favourite artist/group in YG? (or should I make this more open to other K-Pop groups?)
  4. How did it feel performing in front of the judges?
  5. What would it mean to you if you could get into the company?

Bobo, 17:

  • BECAUSE YG IS AWESOME YO! Haha just kidding. Well, they ARE awesome. But this opportunity doesn’t come around very often and I’ve always been good at singing and wanted to be a singer since I was little so I thought I’d give it a shot.
  •  I love that the artists and YG have such a good relationship together. YG treats his artists like his children rather than like his products.
  • Tablo definitely. I mean, I love the others too but Tablo’s been through so much and he still pulled through and came back to the music scene. He’s got some serious guts and determination. AND HIS RAP SKILLS ARE AMAZING. ASDFGHJKL.
  • Well, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be actually. There was only one judge so it didn’t feel as pressuring. And where we were in batches of 10, I felt more comfortable because there were 9 other people who were in the same situation as me. My big downside was that I was only allowed to sing for a bit and I got cut off right before the big note!! RAH!! My audition could’ve been so much better. TT^TT
  •  If I could get into YG it would just be the most amazing thing for me. Becoming a trainee would mean that I’m already part way to achieving my dream of debuting as a singer! My chances are slim but I would LOVE to get in!!

Sophia, 14:

  • Because its a good opportunity to gain experience lol plus if a lot of people turn up for YG it’ll show them that a lot of people like a kpop in the uk and maybe we’ll get more concerts xD
  • Their artists and how YG treats them ie.no crazy slave contracts/extreme diets.
  • 2ne1 ~ I do love big bang too but 2ne1 will forever be first haha
  • Quite intimidating tbh but towards the end I was a little bit more relaxed and hopefully performed a bit better .
  • A LOT. I probably wouldn’t be able to actually move to Korea but the fact that a company acknowledges what I have to offer would be absolutely amazing~~

Also, Sheena, a auditionee made a video about her experience during her day at the YG Auditions:
