Minch & Films previously created a documentary film following 9 Muses for a year as they prepared for their debut. The film exposed how it really is for young Koreans training to become idols, showing the less than glamourous side of the industry. The film has now been cut down into a shorter TV report as part of BBC World’s ‘My Country’, a show which features documentaries about different parts of the world, created by local film makers. The film has been renamed to ‘IDOL’ for the documentary.
Unlike the film, ‘9 Muses of Star Empire’, the 45 minute TV documentary version has taken a more journalistic approach to the subject. The original film was previously selected for the IDFA Music documentary competition, perhaps the documentary can make as much impact.
The documentary will be aired on Saturday 16th of Feb (9:10AM & 8:10PM) and Sunday 17th of Feb (2:10AM & 3:10PM) on BBC World. Check out the BBC schedule here.
We would highly recommend watching this, it’s a truly insightful piece into the K-pop industry, and makes you appreciate just how hard idols have worked for their dreams. For those that can’t watch it, hopefully it will be put on the BBC iPlayer. If so, we’ll post the link for you all to see!
