We’re looking at the soloist artist Anda for this SOTW with her newest song ‘Like Family’. She has been described as being eccentric, especially with her music videos. Though there’s one thing for sure, she is a unique and arguably an underappreciated artist.

It’s a sound change from ‘Touch’, with its funky tune. Though, paired up with her dulcet tones, it really blends well with the instrumental of the song. The basis of this song circles around a relationship that’s bordering between the line of friendship and being in a romantic relationship. The lyrics flow through the different stages, at the beginning it’s the most exciting part however it’s more than evident that it dulls down quickly. It starts off with the first month, having food together on a daily basis as the pair constantly ‘send hundreds of hearts through text’ until it quickly dissolves into meeting every other day and sending ‘maybe one heart through text’.
“But when we kiss, when we hug
There is no feeling
We’re way too comfortable
It’s like family”.
It’s only further emphasised via the music video over the desire to move pass the point of seeing her other half as more than a ‘family member’ in the suggestive style that’s starting to be associated with ANDA. The general consensus of the song points to feeling conflicted in a relationship. With the kind of unrealistic expectations that is often gained from dramas, it’s more than understandable that in real life we may not feel fully satisfied with what we have. However, it’s usually the case where you either have to work with what you’ve been dealt with, or simply just end something that evidently isn’t going anywhere.
“I get too lonely to be alone
I get too stressed when we’re together
I like you but then I hate you sometimes”.
Throughout the MV, the scenes were shot in a hospital setting which may contains undertones of the sexual fetish of dressing up. From the background actors, it looks to be creating a kind of sexual fantasy that may be desired to be explored. The scene transitions as the camera pans from her eyes is smooth, if only slightly repetitive like with her MV ‘Touch’ which wasn’t short of sexual implications either. Though the MV references to the lyrics, with the notion of trying to add some ‘spice’ into a relationship that isn’t going anywhere. A relationship that hasn’t progressed since its early days, leading Anda to think of her partner to be ‘like family’ than a boyfriend.
