Mum-of-two Hyeon Jeong Yoon is the UK’s only Korean food blogger and now she’s secured a spot on Liverpool’s Baltic Market.

Hyeon left her job as a lecturer and interpreter in Daegu, South Korea due to her mother-in-law’s ill health eight years ago and moved to St Helen’s. Since then she’s been posting how-to videos and recipes of authentic Korean dishes on her blog called ‘Gilded Gingerbread’.

As her blog’s popularity increased, she messaged Independent Liverpool, the owners of Baltic Market, on Instagram and her bravery has paid off as she’s now host to a 12 week stall at the market called ‘Love Kimchi’. The stalls menu includes tasty Korean food including crispy dumplings, Korean fried chicken and a range of vegan options.

“I just couldn’t believe it really because it’s amazing to me that we have this opportunity,” Hyeon said. “Korean food names can be so hard for English people to say so I renamed them to things like Gangnam Style chicken and Kpop and they are really popular.

“Everyone at Baltic Market is very friendly, we have been told we are currently in the top three vendors there which is exciting to me.

“I hope to open my own-restaurant in the future to give people in Newton-le-Willows and St Helens a chance to try tasty Korean food.”
