Since the news initially dropped back in July about the release of BLACKPINK’s latest biggest installment to their discography, ‘The Album‘, it’s safe to say that anticipation has been building up over the last few months. Sales for the album has been recorded over 1 million pre-orders, indicating the global attention set on the group.
BLACKPINK is the the first girl group that broke a 52 year old record by selling over 1 million copies in South Korea since The Pearl Sisters. The title track ‘Lovesick Girls‘ has received domestic support, rising up the Top 10 spots at #1 on the Bugs and Genie chart. They are reportedly the first act to have their whole album chart at the same time on the MelOn 24Hits.
‘The Album‘ dropped at the ripe and early time at 5AM here in the UK and within less than an hour they broke their own record in hit 10 million views for the title track ‘Lovesick Girls‘. The group’s full studio album includes pre-release singles ‘How You Like That‘ and ‘Ice Cream‘, the former having won ‘Song of the Summer’ at the VMA’s and the latter being one of the special collaborations they have included in this album.
Additional tracks within ‘The Album’ consist of ‘Pretty Savage‘, a heavy rap based track, ‘Bet You Wanna‘ with American rapper Cardi B, not forgetting the title track ‘Lovesick Girls‘, ‘Crazy Over You‘, ‘Love to Hate Me‘ and ‘You Never Know‘, taking it slow to finish it all off. There’s a total of three English tracks including ‘Bet You Wanna‘, ‘Crazy Over You‘ and ‘Love to Hate Me‘.
On the iTunes chart, BLACKPINK have accumulated 50 #1‘s in Turkey, Greece, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden and the US, the latter being their first album to hit the No.1 spot. They have a current peak at #2 in the UK, which is their second highest peak on the album chart following ‘Kill This Love‘ last year. It has also reached #2 in France, Greece, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.
[UPDATE 08/10/2020] Cutting the date close to nearly a week since the release of BLACKPINK’s debut album, it has exceeded its original peak position at #2 to rise up to #1 in the UK! Congratulations for all the success the album has had so far to the group.
