He’s done it! Gangnam Style fever has swept the globe this month and today officially conquers the UK, galloping all the way to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.
It has been a remarkable few weeks for the South Korean singer, amassing 325 million hits on YouTube, international mega stars such as Britney Spears declaring her love for the video and learning the comic horse-riding dance on the Ellen Show in the US. Even music mogul Simon Cowell described Psy as “brilliant”.
Here in the UK Gangnam Style has been on a six week journey up through the Official Singles Chart, where last weekend it entered the Top 5. Sales this week surged by 73% to push the Korean YouTube phenomenon all the way to the top, toppling The Script by a comfortable margin of 26,000 copies. In doing so, Psy gives the UK its first ever K-Pop Number 1.

The Script bump down one place to Number 2, while Flo Rida climbs six places to Number 3 with I Cry. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is the Taylor Swift track that topped the Official Streaming Chart earlier this month and its popularity shows little sign of waning as Swift continues her singles ascent too, up two places this week to Number 4. The Top 5 is completed by Ne-Yo’s Let Me Love You.
