The Korean Culture Centre’s London festival of Korean music returns in September this year. A month long festival of live music at venues across London, K-Music 2015 will this year include seven different events.
1st Sept: SU:M @ Purcell Room Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre
SU:M consist of Ji-ha Park and Jung-min Seo, the duo aim to bring a contemporary spirit to traditional Korean music.
4th & 5th Sept: The Barberettes @ The Forge [The Barberettes recently played Cannes’ Midem showcase]
Vocal harmony trio Shin-ae Ahn, Eun-hye Kim and So-hee Park will take you back in time to the 50s and 60s as they reinvent classics and deliver their own tracks in both Korean and English.
11th Sept: No Brain @ Scala
Punk rockers No Brain; Bogle, Bull, Vovo and Dolly; have spent 15 years beating their Kpop contemporaries to the top of the charts!
16th Sept: Jambinai @ Rich Mix [Jambinai recently played Liverpool Sound City]
Jambinai will blow your mind with their mix of traditional Korean music and contemporary rock metal.
20th Sept: Noreum Machi @ Kings Place
Another traditional Korean music group (Ju-hong Kim, Ho-won Lee, Hyeon-ju Oh, Yong-jun Kim, and Tae-ho Kim) Noreum Machi want to make Korean music accessible to everyone.
23rd Sept: Pansori @ Cadogan Hall
Combining traditional Korean song from Sang-il Nam and Aeri Park with the contemporary bboy dance styles of Poppin Hyun Joon (Park’s husband), Pansori show that the traditional Gugak music still has a place in the idol dominated market.
30th Sept: Korean National Gugak Centre @ Sadler’s Wells (Lilian Baylis Studio)
A night of traditional Korean music, or Gugak, for the National Gugak Center aims to carry forth the historic musical traditions that date all the way back to the Kingdom of Silla.
The programme for the night includes Cheonnyeonmanse, Daegeum Sanjo, Geomungo Sanjo, Haegeum Sanjo, Sinawi and Sanjo Dance Sanjochum.
