London School of Economics Korea Future Forum is hosting a special event on October 16th, an opportunity to meet a North Korean refugee who has been very publicly working to raise awareness of human rights issues in her former home.

Hyeonseo Lee escaped from North Korea in the late 1990s, and hid in China before she finally entered South Korea. She has given a testimony at the UN Security Council, shared some of her personal story at TED, and earlier this year published her memoir The Girl With Seven Names – A North Korean Defector’s Story.

After Hyeonseo’s speech at the event, there will be a discussion on human rights chaired by the LSE Centre for the Study of Human Rights.
