Last year JYP teamed up with KBS World to turn six women of wildly mixed musical ability into a number one hit-making girl group. The group, Unnies, had girl group vet Tiffany from Girl’s Generation as their leader, but the five other women had more experience in acting or comedy shows and had to learn dancing and singing at lightning speed. It was an impressive feat – and this year the group is back, with a major change in lineup.

The new generation of Unnies features Somi formerly of I.O.I, and Minzy formerly of 2NE1. In fact, comedienne Kim Sook and model Hong Jinkyung are the only original members this time around. Joining them, and Somi and Minzy, are actresses Kang Yewon and Han Chaeyoung, and trot singer Hong Jinyoung. The group’s punishing dance and singing training, plus their adorable gal-pal bonding has been documented on the weekly KBS show Sister’s Slam Dunk 2.

This Friday, the new lineup will officially debut, performing their song Right? and a second track La La La Song live on Music Bank. The catchy Right has been played a lot on the KBS TV show, and they’ve already released a dance practice video ahead of the MV.

With a team of seasoned K-pop trainers and producers behind them – songwriter and producer Kim Hyeongseok was the man who produced JYP himself – they’re sure to do well again on the charts.

Five of the members have also appeared on Immortal Songs recently, performing a rework of the previous Unnies hit Shut Up, and I.O.I’s Pick Me. Minzy’s sharp suit alone is worth the watch.
