Welcome back to Film Friday! Today we’ll be looking at the 2006 romance film, Traces of Love.

The film is based on the real life tragedy that happened in Seoul in 1995 when the Sampoong department store collapsed, which lead to the death of 502 people and nearly 1000 more were injured. Traces of Love follows law student Hyun Woo and TV director Min Ju who are engaged to be married. Sadly, tragedy strikes when Min Ju is killed when the department store collapses, leaving Hyun Woo devastated and alone.

From here, we skip several years in to the future, and despite having advanced in his career, Hyun Woo is still missing something in his life. A visit from Min Ju’s father sets Hyun Woo on a new path when he is given Min Ju’s old diary. When he reads it he discovers that his ex-fiancé had set out every step of a dream journey for their honeymoon, based on places she had visited with her work that she wanted to share with him. Hyun Woo decides to visit all the places Min Ju mentioned in her plan, but the unexpected happens when he meets a mysterious woman on his travels.

As you might expect, this film has very sad moments to it, so if you’re a fan of the tragic romance genre then this will be right up your street! I’m not always a fan of this genre, but I genuinely enjoyed Traces of Love! I tend to like films that incorporate real life events into them, as I feel that it brings a really interesting feel to what you’re watching.

But don’t just take my word for it! Watch it, and let us know what you think! Until next time!
