Though the weekly edition of Top of the Pops left our screens in July 2006, the BBC music television show continues to produce a festive special, bringing together the year’s best releases.

The 2018 edition, hosted by Fearne Cotton and Clara Amfo, featured George Ezra, Christine and the Queens, Jonas Blue, Years and Years (who collaborated with SHINee’s Key in 2018) and many more.

During a voice-over summary of the year’s big hits, Fearne Cotton mentioned South Korean education entertainment company Pinkfong’s viral hit ‘Baby Shark’ before discussing the rise of BTS as their mv for ‘Idol’ played in the background.

Of the group Fearne said:

But there was another phenomenon to come out of South Korea this year. These seven all-singing, all dancing superstars are known across the globe as BTS. They have mobilised millions of fans, topped the music charts and won countless awards. Plus, their 2019 arena tour sold out in minutes.
