Proving the might of the South Korean film industry, three South Korean films took home awards at the 49th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).
On 31 January, the best in talent in filmmaking in 2019 was recognised and awarded by the film festival.
Director Bong Joon Ho was awarded the IFFR audience award, also known as the BankGiro Loterij Audience Award, for his black and white version of “Parasite.” This version will be showcased in cinemas at the end of February.
Director Kim Yong Hoon’s “Beast Clawing at Straws” was awarded the IFFR’s Tiger Competition special jury award. The film’s structure, acting, script, directing and portrayal of the inequality of classes in today’s society was praised.
Director Yoon Dan Bi was awarded the Bright Future prize. The was the film brought out the richness of human relationships within family was praised.
