The UK News channel Sky News covered K-pop singer PSY’s recent hit ‘Gangnam Style’ today in their ‘Strange News’ segement.

‘Strange News’ is an area in which Sky News shows all the more light-hearted news stories of recent times. The subjects covered are often wide, varied and – as the title suggests – strange.

A story on ‘Gangnam Style’ and the large amount of viral popularity it is currently recieving was covered today. This piece was shown on Sky‘s Interative news service as well as on it’s official website.

The article talks of how a “chubby singer” from South Korea has managed to capture the interest of people all over the world with his latest hit.

Despite briefly covering the fact that ‘Gangnam Style’ is a song about a particularly affluent area of South Korea, one line reads:

“In South Korea, the song is seen as a humourous send-up of the country’s bland K-pop genre.”

Many K-pop fans would probably argue that the writer of this piece has misread the message of this song and video.

You can read the online version of the artcle here.

What do you have to say about this?
Do you think the article fairly represents PSY, the song itself or the K-pop genre as a whole?
