Somerset’s Millfield School – a leading independent boarding and day school – previously announced plans for a new music programme for the 2012-2013 school session. Amongst these plans is, ‘Millfield at Cadogan’, a national concert on March 23rd at the Cadogan Hall in London. The concert will include performances from Millfield pupils, as well as former Millfield student and ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland, who will be performing a one-off piece for the concert. So-Ock Kim, a top Korean violinist, will also be performing.
So-Ock Kim is a renowned violinist, who has performed at prestigious venues such the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Hall and Wigmore Hall. Having also appeared as a soloist with the likes of the London Symphony Orchestra, the English Sinfonia, Britten Sinfonia and the Orchestra Filharmonica di Torino, So-Ock is considered one of the leading violinists of her generation, winning the Gold Medal in the Shell/LSO Competition aged 15, becoming the youngest ever winner. She has toured throughout the world, performing across Asia, Europe and the United States. She was announced to be the school’s Strings Consultant in Feb 2011.
Millfield has previously featured artists such as Emma Johnson MBE and Tallis Scholars, and the school boasts a number of 9 current or former students who took part in the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
The concert is promised to be a treat for all attending, as it presents the school’s past and present along with the best of the school’s performers. It’s certainly not a show to be missed for music fanatics, especially those who are fans of So-Ock Kim.
