Canadian-Korean Choi Gina, better known as G.NA, released her comeback single Secret (Pretty Underwear) on May 12th.
Just like several other comebacks, it was originally teased for release in April, but now this lighthearted playful tune is probably just the right note to kick off the new K-pop season.
The agency (CUBE) said…
“G.NA, who has typically sung about confident women, seeks to portray women’s pure and candid attitudes this time through her new song. It has a fresh melody and lyrics that any woman who has been in love can empathise with.”
The tune
It’s not as immediately catchy as her last comeback Oops, but the sweet and simple chorus demands a second and third listen. A flirty-but-cute melody, it’s nothing taxing on the ears, perfect for a shot of sunshine on a grey day.
The MV
With the title ‘Pretty Underwear’ and the teaser pics I was expecting some softly-shot lingerie moments, but sorry fanboys, apparently G.NA just wants to show her undies a tiny bit through some cute pastel dresses. She’s preparing for her house party where Mr Dreamboat is gonna be a guest, so the right layers are important. It’s all very light in tone – ending with a giant rabbit, balloons, and giggles – and when a shop salesman is caught peeking at G.NA in her changing room, she simply bops him on the nose with the saloon door playfully. No, silly, these pretty undies are not for you!

Overall thoughts
A harmless candy-floss of a comeback that should spring K-pop right into summer. It hasn't got the pulling earworm power of Oops, but enjoyable nonetheless.
