For this weeks ‘Friday Foods’ we take a look a how to make galbi jjim, a popular beef dish!

Ingredients:

– 1kg beef short ribs
– 2 potatoes, cut into cubes
– 3 carrots, cut into cubes
– 1/2 onion, sliced
– 3 shiitake mushrooms, sliced
– 2 cups water
– 4 cloves garlic, minced
– 5 tbsp soy sauce
– 2 tbsp corn syrup
– 2 tbsp sesame oil
– 2 green onions, sliced

Step 1: Prior to cooking, let the shiitake mushrooms soak in water for up to 5 hours.

Step 2: Thoroughly wash the beef short ribs.

Step 3: In boiling water, boil the short ribs for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Drain the short ribs and wash with cold water.

Step 5: Place the short ribs into an empty pot.

Step 6: In a bowl, mix the 2 cups of water, minced garlic, soy sauce, green onions and sliced onions. Add into the pot with short ribs.

Step 7: Boil on medium heat for 25 minutes.

Step 8: After 25 minutes, add in the potatoes, carrots and shiitake mushrooms.

Step 9: On low heat, let it simmer for over an hour, ensuring the meat is fully cooked.

Step 10: Add in the corn syrup and sesame oil, increasing the heat to medium for up to 10 minutes.

Step 11: Pour it into a plate and enjoy!
