Mamamoo entered the k-pop scene back in 2014 with their debut track Mr Ambiguous, featuring top stars such as Bumkey, Baek Ji Young, Wheesung, CNBLUE‘s Lee Jong Hyun and many, many more. The retro style song and video successfully made it’s mark in the charts, earning them Rookie of the Year at the Seoul Success Awards and New Artist of the Year at the Gaon Chart K-pop Awards. With their debut only being last year, Mamamoo are already turning heads and gaining attention from both k-pop fans, and idols alike.
Solar, Whee In, Hwa Sa and Moon Byul have since been setting new standards for themselves with their powerful vocals, unique style and entertaining music videos, and have once again proved their popularity with their new album “Pink Funky”.
Pink Funky marks a change in concept for Mamamoo, completely breaking the Jazz style they debuted with. The music video for the title track “Um Oh Ah Yeah” features main rapper Moon Byul dressed as a tomboy and being hit on by vocalist, Solar – before it’s revealed than Moon Byul is in fact a girl. The other girls can also be seen sporting heavy makeup and boyish looks, as they play their own humorous parts in the story. Read more about it here.
The song itself is fun and extremely catchy, with some impressive vocal range being demonstrated by the girls. Was ‘Pink Funky’ the sort of comeback you expected?
In the midst of their promotions, the girls have kindly taken to answering some of our questions. Check out the interview below!
