Streaming giant Disney+, home of Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic, looks set to stream Korean Dramas in 2022. Following Disney+ landing in Korea, the service has announced exclusive streaming of five dramas.

Snowdrop, starring BLACKPINK’s Jisoo is one of the five dramas Disney+ will air, though the controversy surrounding the drama sees its future, and probably its overseas streaming, uncertain.

Other programming rumoured for a Disney+ future include:

  • Rookies starring Kang Daniel, in his first acting role, and Chae Soo-bin
  • Moving featuring Jo Insung and Han Hyojoo
  • Grid with Seo Kang Joon and Kim Ah Joong
  • Sixth Sense Kiss starring Yoon Kye Sang and Seo Ji Hye

It looks like Disney+ will also air BLACKPINK: The Movie and a spin-off of the hit variety show Running Man that will feature original cast members Kim Jong Kook, Haha and Ji Suk Jin.

It’s not surprising that Disney+ would be joining the ranks of streaming services offering Korean media. The media giant now has one of the most successful streaming platforms and the success of Squid Game on Netflix has showcased that the audience for Korean Dramas isn’t niche at all.

Disney plans to create over fifty original Asia Pacific (Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Greater China, Australia) productions by 2023 including comedy, fantasy, romance, sci-fi, crime and horror, variety, documentary and anime offerings.

There are currently no confirmed streaming dates for the UK region of the platform.
