We always strive to make good connections between Korea and the UK, and since we recently interviewed Block B and asked their thoughts on the UK – which is to be released soon. We thought it would be a great idea to ask British artists about K-pop, and so, presenting our interview with former X-factor contestants – District 3. Read on to hear a little about them and their thoughts on K-pop.

For those that don’t know who you are, please introduce yourselves.
Hello we’re Micky, Dan and Greg! District 3 🙂

So having been on the X-factor, what was it like?
Well it was a great experience, great learning curve and being able to perform to millions every weekend was a lot of pressure but a brilliant opportunity I don’t think we or anyone can ever forget!

How long have you been singing for, and what made you want to sing in the first place?
Well we’ve been singing on and off for years Of course when your voice breaks, you have to restart. We went to a musical school together and singing is a necessary requirement.

Who are your singing inspirations?
Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Brian Mcknight, – The Classics.

You previously danced to the viral hit ‘Gangnam Style’, what do you think of it?
I think it’s ridiculously catchy, very well produced and unfortunately I would comment on the lyrics however I don’t speak Korean. But Baby’s a pretty well known one, it’s amazing to think it’s overtaking on Baby on YouTube, almost at a Billion now!!!

Have you heard any other Korean songs? If so, which songs and what are your thoughts on them?
I haven’t to be honest. Send some over, I’m always up for listening to any music!

Gangnam Style has now become both the most watched and liked video in YouTube history. Do you think Korean music could become popular here in the UK? Why/Why not?
Yes I don’t see why not, I mean as long as it has some English in the lyrics, I’m sure it would work. The charts in a sense is very dance driven, so if it’s another dance track I reckon it would be more likely, then again you never know, ballads are a guilty pleasure! Haha.

Pixie Lott previously collaborated with G-Dragon and TOP from the Korean group BIGBANG for her song ‘Dancing By Myself’. Would you like to collaborate with a Korean artist? If so, who would it be?
Yeah would love to work with PSY. He’s brilliant at what he does and we would love to work with him!!

Finally, thank you for answering our questions. We wish you the best of luck!
Thank you very much! 🙂

Have you got any K-pop suggestions for District 3? Perhaps they should ask labelmates The Wanted, who have previously spoken about the likes of Super Junior, SNSD and of course, member Jay Mcguiness’ favourite 2NE1. If you would like to send them your suggestions, you can tweet them at their official twitter @district3music.

Check out their most recent cover from their official YouTube channel of One Direction’s Little Things. You guys can suggest them some K-pop songs to cover in English, perhaps they might do it one day!
