WINNER haven’t even made their debut yet but they’ve been in the public eye since last summer. With their actual debut fast approaching, YG Entertainment have been releasing teaser videos since the middle of June… and the styling choices are something worth talking about!
These particular outfits show an immensely sophisticated and matured side of the group, contrary to the young and boyish charms that shone through on ‘Who Is Next?’ broadcasts, the show the group won to receive their title of ‘WINNER’. With them comes a demure, French chic theme, consisting of light fabrics and soft pastel blues, beiges and greys.
One way to create this kind of look is using loose items of clothing, male or female. Nothing worn here is tight fitting. Shirts are somewhat oversized and flowing, cotton tops are slouchy and crew-necked and trousers and shorts are pencil-legged, cropped and tailored. Mixing the smart bottom pieces with more lazy shirts creates this very relaxed but smart and sophisticated style. The rough fabrics are paired with suitably expensive-looking leather shoes for a deep contrast.
All these outfits look like they’d keep you cool on a hot summer day in the middle of the city and are formed with timeless pieces that you can interchange and wear year after year. Plus, you don’t need to spend a fortune on expensive Italian shoes to recreate this chic style; all the pieces are so simple that you can find them commonly within any price range.
While the photos were shot in New York City, the French theme is very prominent; and it isn’t just those striped shirts! Stereotypical as it may be, the French are recognised for their ability to throw very simple, very stylish outfits together. They earned themselves the right to the phrase ‘effortless dressing’. And is it any surprise? Paris has made a name for itself as one of the fashion capitals of the world, on par with London, Milan, New York. Close behind these major fashion giants is Seoul. There is already an annual Fashion Week in Seoul and a number of South Korean designer fashion lines are gaining global recognition, including 2PLACEBO, LuckyChouette and JUDYANDJOSHUA. Not to mention the infatuation of young people all over the world with ‘Korean Fashion’, a concept that has emerged in recent years and has been accelerated by the increasing popularity of K-pop.
