It’s been nearly five years since PSY took the world by storm as his song ‘Gangnam Style’ went viral and grabbed billions of views on YouTube with his quirky, slapstick humor. Now, it’s been revealed that the video has been included in the list of 50 nominations for MTV UK’s ‘Greatest Video’.
‘Gangnam Style‘ is currently number #28 on the list with 2.7 thousands votes so far and is the only K-Pop video to have been shortlisted! If you want to show your support and vote for the M/V, you can do so by clicking here! Voting will end on June 23 and the results will be shown on MTV Music on July 1 on MTV Music! And if you vote, you can use #MTVGreatestVideo on Twitter!
It’s hard to deny that PSY had helped with introducing K-Pop to mainstream pop listeners, despite being a song that was not an English song. It somehow seemed to gain momentum as the M/V increased in views by the date since it’s release with a catchy tune to boot, which is a feat especially during a time when the genre was not considered to be as popular as it is now.
The other contenders includes many other established artists in the Western music industry with hit songs such as ‘Welcome To The Black Parade‘ by My Chemical Romance, ‘Single Ladies‘ by Beyonce, ‘Wrecking Ball’ by Miley Cyrus, ‘Uptown Funk’ by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars, ‘Hey Ya’ by Outkast, ‘Hotline Bling‘ by Drake, ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams and much more!
