Three years since the debut of Twice, and another girl-group has debuted on to the stage in the name of JYP. While YG and SM continue to sleep on their womanly wonders, it seems JYP Entertainment has the mind set on promoting a variety of female talent…

Say hello to Itzy! A five-member girl group who have released their first single – I’m Different. The music video of the promoted track, Dalla Dalla, has already set a record for the most number of views for a debut video within 24 hours, being viewed 13,933,725 times!

It seems there is a high expectation from the new team of five, which icludes members Chaeryeong, Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, and Yuna. So can Itzy follow in the footsteps of the much beloved seniors before them?

The entertainment company they’re under is well-known in producing successful girl groups. Wonder Girls, debuting in 2006, had helped bring Kpop to the global masses while in its mere infancy with their hit “Nobody”. The English version of which became the first Korean pop song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, a feat that has since only been surpassed by the likes of PSY, CL, BTS and BLACKPINK. Then in 2010 and 2015 came with the successful debuts of Miss A and Twice. The latest of which have had immense success in both Korea and neighbouring Japan.

It seems there’s no stopping from Itzy becoming the next big thing to shake the Korean charts and beyond and they’ve already sparked a great deal of interest on social media. However, some may be projecting a little too much by already comparing them to industry greats when the girls have only just stepped on to the scene…
