Cosmic Girls, also known as WJSN (an abbreviation of the Korean – Wu Ju So Nyeo), are a thirteen member girl group that debuted in February this year. They are a collaborative project of Korean and Chinese agencies Starship Entertainment and Yuehua Entertainment respectively.
The thirteen members are: SeolA, Xuan Yi, Bona, Exy, Soobin, Luda, Dawon, Eunseo, Cheng Xiao, Mei Qi, Yeoreum, Dayoung and Yeonjung. The members hail from both South Korea and China. They are also split into four sub-groups, each named after a letter in WJSN – Wonder, Joy, Sweet and Natural.
So far, the group have released two EPs entitled ‘Would You Like?’ and ‘The Secret’. They have also released 3 MVs, one of which even features actor and ‘SBS Running Man’ member Lee Kwang Soo.
Yeonjung joined the group after their debut in August, she is also a member of multiple agency girl group I.O.I. Members Exy, Cheng Xiao, SeolA, Soobin, Eunseo, Yeoreum and Dayoung are also part of a unit called Y-Teen with their label mates Monsta X.
Before debut, SeolA and Eunseo both made appearances in Monsta X music videos, and members Dayoung and Dawon were both contestants in different series of talent show ‘K-Pop Star’. Exy was a contestant on ‘Unpretty Rapstar 2’, and both Exy and Soobin had roles in the 2015 drama series ‘The Flatterer’ and ‘High End Crush’ respectively.
The group have guested on many television programmes together, including: ‘After School Club’, ‘MV Bank Stardust 2’ and ‘Weekly Idol’. They also had their own special Mnet programme ‘Would You Like Girls: My Cosmic Diary’. The ladies have appeared on shows separately or with only a few of the members present as well.
Cosmic Girls have won the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award at ‘M! Countdown’ in China and will hopefully have a lot of success in the future!
