A month or so has passed since Park Bom’s return to the music world with her comeback mini album ‘Spring‘ on April 13. It seemed a more than fitting time for her to step back into the spotlight, particularly when it was revealed that there were initial plans for the soloist to have her comeback earlier but made the decision to prioritise her mental health first to ensure that she was fully ready to face the new set of challenges that were ahead of her.

Bom certainly gives off the impression of being determined to give back to her fans who had been waiting for her solo music since the release of ‘Don’t Cry‘ back in 2011. Perhaps it could just be that she’s trying to make up for lost time as she makes her second return of the year on May 2 with the repackaged album ‘re: BLUE ROSE’, which features the title track ‘4:44‘ with Mamamoo singer Wheein.

For this SOTW, we’ll be looking at the ballad version of ‘Spring‘ which was the comeback song that Park Bom promoted back in March. The original track took a calming approach with a flare of pop, though in contrast with the songs that she had released prior to this, it felt like we were seeing a new side to her. A bonus of it was that it featured fellow 2NE1 member Dara, making it almost feel like the good old days.

With this, the ballad styled song felt more stripped back, her tone taking a more gentle note as the lyrics moves to a deeper path. While fans would have embraced the return with open arms, this felt more like the Park Bom that fans had been waiting for. Because in reality, while it was refreshing to see her back, one of the main factors that stood out about her and also what people loved about her was her voice. She’s certainly got a long journey ahead of her to build up the foundations of her career, though, with her confirmed plans of releasing new music this year, it doesn’t look like she’s going anywhere else than onward and upwards.

You can check out her album on iTunes and also you can stream it on Spotify.
