For this weeks ‘Friday Foods’ we check out how to make a quick and easy potato snack called ‘matang’!

Ingredients:

– A few sweet potatoes (depending on how much you want to make!)
– Vegetable oil
– Sugar
– Sesame seeds

Step 1: Peel and wash the sweet potatoes.

Step 2: Dry the sweet potatoes.

Step 3: Cut the sweet potatoes into bitesize chunks.

Step 4: Grab a wok/frying pan and use as much oil as you would need in order to cover the sweet potatoes. Heat the oil first, then add the sweet potatoes.

Step 5: Cook for 6-10 minutes over medium heat, until golden brown.

Step 6: Take the potatoes out, and set aside.

Step 7: In a big frying pan, add one tablespoon of oil and spread around the pan evenly over low-medium heat.

Step 8: Sprinkle 1/4 cup of sugar evenly over the oil, turning it up to medium heat for a few minutes until the sugar starts to melt and basically caramelise.

Step 9: Turn down the heat to low-medium and simmer for 5-7 minutes.

Step 10: When the sugar is golden brown, add the potatoes, tossing/mixing until they are coated in the syrup.

Step 11: Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Step 12: Transfer to a plate and let them cool, letting the syrup harden/become solid, and then you’re good to go!

Enjoy!
