The f(x) girls have been stunning us once again this week with their stylish Vogue teaser picture. Red Light was Sulli’s swansong release with them back in July 2014, and it’s still a kick-ass track and MV.

Objective: say something turned on (passive voice)
Bonus vocabulary: vivid, by itself, that (thing)

Let’s head straight to the chorus! At 1.20 on the MV you can hear the lines:
켜졌어 Red Light – A red light was turned on
선명한 Red Light – Vivid red light
스스로 켜져 – It turned on by itself
그것은 Red Light – That Red Light

The verb being used here is passive voice (e.g. something was done to an object, and you had no involvement)
the basic form of to be turned on = 켜지다 kyeojida

varied forms in the chorus are
it was turned on = 켜졌어 kyeojosso
it’s turned on = 켜져 kyeojyo

Bonus vocabulary
by itself = 스스로 susuro is also a useful word to know. You can use this word to reinforce things that happened without your involvement.

that = 그것 kugo is also a useful word. The particle 은 un follows it in the song. Korean particles are a whole other lesson though, so for now just think of it as something that joins ‘that’ and ‘red light’ nicely.

vivid = 선명하다 sonmyonghada
